Neden is in early development. Each platform’s download is published after its packaged build passes release checks. Read the release notes for known limitations.
macOS
macOS 13+ · Apple silicon. Preview · not notarized.
Open the disk image, drag Neden to Applications, then eject the disk image. This preview is ad-hoc signed and has not been notarized by Apple, so macOS will warn on first launch.
If you trust this download, follow Apple's instructions for opening an unnotarized app in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Intel Macs are not included in this preview.
Windows
Windows 10 / 11 · 64-bit. Experimental preview · unsigned.
Windows 10 version 1809 or later is required. Run the setup file. Neden installs for your Windows account without administrator access and can be removed through Installed apps. This preview is unsigned, so Windows may show a publisher warning.
Embedded web content uses Microsoft's WebView2 Runtime. Install the Evergreen Runtime if it is missing on your PC. Hardware playback and system integration are still experimental.
Linux
Ubuntu 24.04 · 64-bit. Experimental preview · .deb.
The Debian package targets Ubuntu 24.04 on x86-64. From the folder containing the download, install it with:
sudo apt install ./Neden-linux-x86_64-preview.debOpen Neden from your application launcher. Remove it with sudo apt remove neden. Other distributions, Wayland, and hardware playback have not yet been validated.
Your first video
- Open a video from your computer.
- Load a primary subtitle track in the language you’re learning. Add a secondary track for translation if you have one.
- For definitions and explanations, configure an AI provider and your API key in Settings → Services.
- Click a word to look it up, or choose Explain line to pause and explore the whole sentence.
